A colourful wedding at The Georgian Townhouse

the Georgian townhouse in norwich - June 2025

Poppy and Joey enquired with me back in March 2024 - a good 18 months before their summer 2025 wedding.

Their original venue plans changed slightly due to circumstances out of their control but the one thing that never altered was their need for a day that reflected them as a couple and keeping it family and close friend focused.

And they achieved that.

I arrived at The Georgian Townhouse on what turned out to be one of the hottest days of the year.

Poppy was getting ready in the Coach House across the road with her mum, her best friend & Joey's mum and sister. Immediately it was such a warm and excited vibe with music playing, snacks and fizz.

first look with dad

Their first look was not set up at all. It was simply a case of "here comes my dad" and she stepped out to greet him. No faffing, no orchestrating and no interference from me or anyone else. My favourite part of this first look was Poppy excitedly saying to her dad "look at my shoes" as she flashed her gorgeous orange heels.

[we will get the those shoes later - they deserve a section of their own].

Her dad's unsurprised expression and laughter told me everything I needed to know about their relationship.

A private first look for the couple

[no, I mean completely private].

Poppy and Joey chose to have a private first look. Not done for photos, just for them. To help settle their nerves and just be alone for 10 mins before they got married. We all stepped inside and closed the curtains for them to have their moment.

I was stood in a room full of very excited bridesmaids who were so respectful, they didn't even peek behind the curtain!

After a few minutes I nipped outside to grab a few natural portraits of them before we headed to their ceremony.

Orange and pink

Poppy's bridesmaids and maid of honour [her gorgeous mum] all chose their own dresses and they all did such a beautiful job.

I personally love mixed dresses for bridesmaids, as often the same dress doesn't suit every skin tone and body shape.

Choosing their own dresses means everyone is comfortable.

The ceremony room was styled with chair tassels, dried orange garland and a beautiful deconstructed flower arch.

Oh and did I mention disco balls?! Flower stems in bottle lined the aisle and each seat had a program of the days plans.

Ceremony

Each bridesmaid walked in before Poppy and Joey walked down the aisle together.

I loved this. They were absolutely beaming and so was everyone else in the room.

They wrote their own vows and Poppy's brother did a reading.

The gardens at The Georgian Townhouse are perfect for the pub/beer garden vibe.

Poppy and Joey's guests relaxed in the sunshine and soaked up the chilled and joyful atmosphere.

couples portraits

We headed round the corner to the Plantation Gardens in Norwich for their couples portraits. Having your portraits in a separate location is a great idea as it really gives you a proper breather and allows time for you to soak in what's already happened during the day. But it doesn't work for everyone. If the location you have in mind is a car journey away, this really needs to be considered as traffic can play a huge part in the timings of your day.

This was just a 5 minute walk so was perfect and I grabbed some candid photos on the way as we walked.

stopped for a pint

At this time of day the temperature peaked at 28 degrees and we were all melting a bit, so we only spent 10 minutes doing portraits in the gardens and then headed back. The original plan was to do the family group shots when we got back. As we passed the Irish bar, they really wanted to go in for a pint of Guinness, but knew time would be tight.

If a couple really want to do something on their day, I'll always be flexible to try and make it happen.

So fuck it! We went in for a Guinness!

We agreed that as it was summer and we'd have good light until around 9pm, we would do family group shots after dinner.

The perfect compromise.

speeches

Before dinner and awards for guests including most colourful outfit, furthest travelled and least furthest travelled.

This added such an element of fun to the speeches and made great photos.

Evening

Their cakes were 2 caterpillar cakes and lots of mini versions. After the cake cut the dancefloor went off. But not before Poppy's surprise dress change. Joey's reaction to her new dress was everything we hoped for.
